Music Aptitude Test: Frequently Asked Questions. June 7th 2023 Round-up of Questions.

Web stats for the Music Aptitude Test web site

Our web stats are booming and we are receiving a high volume of emails. Mirna and I juggle running the SE22 Piano School which is a full-time teaching role around Music Aptitude Test training. For this reason we are unable to answer emails directly but you can book a slot with us on Pensight if you have specific questions you need answered. This enables us to earn an income from answering questions that have more than likely already been answered on our blog that is regularly updated during the peak busy season.

Here are just a handful of questions we have received this week. I am sure you can see it is quite an onerous task to respond to all of these emails which is why we collate the information online for other parents to see as the questions are always the same each year. There is also a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions page that is updated once a week.

QUESTION: My son has a music test next week Tuesday, so very little time to do any prep.
I have booked a 1-1 session with Mirna this Saturday 13.30-14.30 to increase his chances.

My question is would you recommend downloading your sample tests in addition?
Would you suggest doing this before or after the 1-1 session?

ANSWER: Given that you still have 4 days until your lesson with Mirna I would say that this is an excellent time to get a head start on familiarising yourself with the style of tests. This will enable you to get the most out of your online session with our Music Scholarship expert tutor. You can download the Music Aptitude Test training materials here: https://www.se22piano.co.uk/buy-the-music-aptitude-tests/

QUESTION: I’m trying to find out the cost of downloading a sample test. I’m a teacher- the pupil is talented and we don’t need several tests just one maybe 2 suitable for Ashmole school ( some questions using graphic scores).

ANSWER: We offer one bundle of Music Aptitude Test training materials including 4 standard tests and 1 enhanced test with graphic scores but all tests are good practice for any UK school given that the test changes each year. We do not separate the bundle for individual purchase. Given that you are a teacher, I am sure the materials will be useful for you to use with other students that are sitting the assessment.

QUESTION: I’ve been locked out of my account on the Music Aptitude Test web site. Please help as there is very little time before my child’s test.

ANSWER: At the time of purchasing the Music Aptitude Test training materials, you receive a link to download it on the screen after payment has been processed and also a prompt to save the files to your computer. You are also emailed the link to download the files so there should be no need to log in to the account to download the files if you have followed one of these steps. Do check your junk folder for the email if you have locked yourself out of your online account by entering an incorrect password. The web site will prevent you from logging back in for an hour. Try logging in again and resetting your password after waiting an hour if you cannot locate the files in your inbox. If you cannot access these we will resend them to you. Do note that we keep to office hours so emails on weekends or late at night will not be answered till the next working day. To avoid last minute panic please do consider preparing earlier!

QUESTION: Do you have any tips on how to practice Shape of Music please? I did send an email on Sunday 4th June 23 but have had no reply.

ANSWER: We do not answer emails on Sunday nor do we respond instantly to your request for information or guarantee a response if the request has not come via Pensight which is our dedicated site for answering questions. We state on our auto-reply that it takes 1-3 working days for us to respond as we work full-time as Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher at the SE22 Piano School in East Dulwich. Music Aptitude Test training is something we fit around our regular weekly teaching commitments. If you have specific question you need answered, please ask on Pensight although allow a week to 10 days for a response as a video answer. Early preparation is always advised to allow both tutors and scholarship candidates the time to work through the requirements in a relaxed teaching environment that is the most conducive to success on Exam Day. You would not prepare for 11+ or private school test entry a week before the exam so do ensure you give the same consideration to the Music Scholarship entrance and allow a few months lead time to ensure you have covered all bases.
