I received this email from a parent about the Ashmole Academy Music Aptitude Test. Our tests help you prepare for this scenario and we can work through this with you at the 1-to-1 lesson but our tests do not currently include multi-layered music samples. We encourage you to listen to various types of music with your teacher and ask them to assist you to hear the different layers/instruments that make up the whole piece. We have samples of pieces available for you to practise this when you book a 1-to-1 lesson.
“My son is applying for the MAT at Ashmole Academy, and according to the list of sections for the test this June, the section on Texture has been changed. It is no longer a question of working out whether a chord has 2, 3 or 4 notes, but rather they play a piece of music and students have to identify how many music layers are playing.
I was wondering if the material you provide to prepare for the test includes this updated section?
If you could let me know before we purchase it, that would be great.
