January 2020 is a good time to start thinking about Music Aptitude Test and Scholarship preparation for 2021 state secondary school admissions

We always recommend preparing early for the upcoming state secondary school Music Auditions that will take place in Autumn 2020. We receive the highest volume of enquiries for 1-to-1 lessons in the months of August and September, but we often find that it would have been more beneficial – and less stressful – to musicians to have been given more time to prepare fully for the scholarships. Whilst the schools say that no previous musical knowledge is required, there is the expectation to perform on an instrument or sing plus answer some questions in the form of a Music Aptitude Test (MAT) and/or a verbal interview. We can help you prepare for the tests so that you perform to the best of your ability on the day and feel relaxed and confident on audition day which is usually the second round of the test if you pass the MAT round.

We offer a 30 minute consultation lesson where the teacher will answer all your questions about the scholarship as well as listen to your child performing a piece or two. We will advise on a plan of action to prepare for the auditions and we can advise on how many further sessions would be required to prepare for the Music Aptitude Test if your school uses this system. Please note we do not provide free support by email. To book a session, visit our Eventbrite page. If you do not see a date that you require, please Follow us on Eventbrite and you will receive an email notification as soon as new dates are added for 1-to-1 lessons.
